The role of the obstetric clinician

The obstetric clinician plays a central role in the perinatal collaborative care model by serving as the primary point of contact for pregnant and postpartum patients. They routinely screen for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, initiate early conversations about mental health, and coordinate care with behavioral health specialists, care managers, and psychiatric consultants. By integrating mental health assessment and treatment into routine obstetric care, the obstetric clinician helps reduce stigma, ensures timely identification of concerns, and supports whole-person care that promotes both maternal and infant health.

Below are some training materials to support the role of the obstetric clinician in the perinatal collaborative care model.
